This is my first Reaper mix. Drums were tracked in Pro Tools. All other tracking and mixing was done in Reaper. Used Cool Edit here and there for editing. I've been using Cool Edit since the late 90's. Lately it's been my only reason for having a windows machine around. But now, I think I'm going to try and do everything with Reaper and Audacity and ditch the PC for good. Anyway, let me know what you think:

As always, your songwriting is great! I'm not the best at describing stuf, but here goes.

guitars and drums sound great, rest of the mix sounded a bit wooly to me. Overall the mix lacked a bit of "sparkle", but I guess this is a raw mix? no mastering yet?

Yeah, I do the mastering myself (not the best idea but I have no money). So the next step is to take it around to a bunch of different systems...car stereo, studio, computer speakers, home stereo. I usually burn a CD that alternates between 30 seconds of my track and 30 seconds of a Dream Theater track or something like that so I can hear where mine falls short and try to fix it. So if you guys have suggestions on the mix please let me know.

Thanks!

That is pure Genius. I am going to have to try this. :yesway: Its been a while since I recorded anything. We're going to record my demo songs for real soon though, so I'll utilize this during the mixing/mastering process.

Thanks for listening guys. All of our tracks (36 and counting) are free and you can get them here:

They're listed in order from newest to oldest so in my opinion they gradually get worse as you go down the list. We're working on some new stuff and I'll post it when it's complete...hopefully later this summer.
