Alright, so, I'm a fan of Line6's products, and I use them. That said, I know there's far better stuff out there, and will upgrade to something I'd rather be using when I can afford to. I know exactly where they fit in terms of budget/quality, and I feel they do a great job of that (and I've been lucky enough to never have any reliability issues with their products) and price their products where they belong.

That said, why the fuck is the POD X3 Live more expensive than the brand new POD HD500 (their supposed new flagship in the POD series)? I've been waiting for prices to drop on the X3 stuff so I can pick up an X3 Live on the cheap, since gigging/jamming with the bean is a hassle I don't even want to think about.

I've looked at the new HD series, and the HD500 is the only one will do what I'm looking for (dual-tone, with dual inputs), and it's a bit cheaper than the X3 Live in most stores I look at. I don't want to pay that much right now, and I'm not fully sure I'd want to upgrade to the HD series (if I upgrade, I want to do it right, and go either proper amp and pedals, or Axe-FX), I was just hoping that the X3 series would drop to dirt-cheap sometime so I could keep using my current tones in a more convenient package

I'm guessing it's more due to the stores having bought a lot of inventory at higher prices, so they're not quite willing to take a loss on them just yet. Also, the X3 series has more amps and effects than the HD models, so that may be a factor as well.
Both fair points, though in the case of the first one, having worked in retail, Line6 should be sending them out a credit, or giving them a discount on stock of the new models so they can blow out the old series. But the second option's more likely.

Did you notice that Guitar Rig Kontrol has dual inputs and the software can do parallel signal chains?
Hmm...it seems to be gradually becoming a more common feature. I'd go for Guitar Rig, but I'm happy with my POD X3 setup for home use, and want something more portable for live/jamming use (i.e. just plug into a PA or an amp's effects return and go), and I don't trust my laptop to function reliably  It randomly goes to sleep just browsing the internet :( I used it for sampling with my old band and it's pretty dirty and beat up, and I didn't really trust it for that  It never let me down with that band (we only ever played 2 shows without samples, one was because someone spilled juice on my laptop and I didn't want to turn it on until it was cleaned/dried out, the other was a DI box issue, not my fault  ) but I was nervous every single show setting up, wondering if it would crap out on me  But at least, with that band, and with it only being used for samples, we could play without samples, guitar's a little more vital
