n00b question: Bass wattages

So, helping spec out a cheap but portable rig for our bass player, as he doesn't drive, and I'm shifting his gear about, looks like he's set on the P300H Ibanez head, which is 300w at 4ohm, and 150w at 8ohm. Now, look at this cab... Ampeg B115E Bass Guitar Extension Cabinet | DV247 says that it's 400w, but checking the RMS says it's 200w. I'm a n00b when it comes to bass gear, but could we run the 300w Ibanez through this cab fine? I'd quite like the answer to be yes  Also, if we run the head at 8ohm and 150w, will it be enough to keep up with the rest of the band? So far we've been using a Fender Frontman 100 through my Peavey 410 with decent results, and that's loud enough, but could deal to be ever so slightly louder.

Turns out he just bought an Ampeg B2R off ebay for £250  The link for the B115E recommends the B2RE for that cab, which is 100w more powerful, should be fine then?
You should be good. Bass rigs usually run under the wattage they say, because they're so dynamic and need a lot of headroom, whereas guitars amps push out extra wattage since they get gained out.
If he's careful and listens for the cab "farting out" he might be okay.

Really, you should just bite the bullet and get a decent 4x10 (Ampeg, Eden, etc.). It'll be louder, more sensitive, and have more power handling.

I agree on this. A 4x10 should be louder than a 1x15, generally speaking, at the same wattage.

I have no problems with having one, I just can't afford the car space of one
Buy a proper car :yesway:

Serves them right for driving a 3-series :)
