So, I've been looking for a compliment to my Engl Fireball lately. Something with more channels, more wattage, and more mids. Also, it had to be relatively inexpensive, because I'm a cheap fuck.

Now, a few years ago I played through a Peavey Triple XXX locally, and came away less than thrilled. Too much low end, IMO(and it was tacky with the porn/slut theme). Also messed around with the JSX, which has a great Ultra channel, but I felt the crunch channel needed a bit more saturation to be useful for me.

Enter this:

While in Orlando over the weekend I demoed a few amps, couple Bugeras(flimsy as hell, the knobs felt like they'd break off turning them), an older Peavey Ultra, a Bogner Alchemist, and this 3120. Once I had the gain channels tweaked, I knew I wanted it. The GC had it hooked up to an awful Marshall MG cab, which is pretty much garbage, so I knew it would sound better at home, and I was so right.

This amp sounds great, IMO. Lots of gain on the rhythm channel, more than enough for thrash. Mids are nice and crunchy, and the amp feels tight doing gallops. Ultra channel is saturated and lovely for the lead stuff. It's also not that ugly either.

Now I just need to sell some stuff to help cover the costs! They did knock a couple hundred off the price for me though, mostly because they couldn't find the footswitch.

New rig shot:

I've always wanted one of these. I've got friends who have XXX's and the trucker girl never bothered me.

You have shamed that Engl by putting the Peavey on top.

 I've never played through an Engl, I'm just spreading Peavey hate.

It's stupid that the GC muppets hooked it up to an MG cab.

There were a couple better quality cabs in there without amp heads on them, seems stupid to put this on such a cheap cab... Though, those morons probably don't know what the difference is.

I used to have one of these before i traded it; i was really happy with the tone for the most part, something felt lacking on the rhythm channel; but over all really good.

Just kidding, nice score. Hot looking amp for sure.

Off topic, but oh well.

How do you like that Digitech unit on the floor? I'm thinking about getting a floor unit like that, and would like to have the Whammy stuff in there too. Is it pretty solidly built? what are the dimensions? Have you gigged much with it?

Sluts are better off naked in bed, than on the face of an amp though. :yesway: Online store pictures of this amp turned me off as well, but it's much better in person.

I love that RP1000, great sounding unit. The 5150II model is damn near perfect. Effects are good, standard Digitech fare. The Whammy is just adequate though, not as good as the real stand alone unit. It feels pretty sturdy, but I don't currently gig, so no clue.

It's about 20" wide, by 11" deep, and pretty tall in the back, like 3-4".

You thought the JSX crunch channel didn't have enough gain?

glad you dig the 3120 or w/e, I've seen one but yet to test one :yesway:

Thanks, dude. Guess I'll keep my Whammy IV and keep looking. :yesway:

Holy shit you like a lot of gain! When I had the JSX, I never went past 6 on crunch, and almost never used the Ultra channel.
That's what I thought. I couldn't stand the Ultra channel on the JSX

Wussies. Seriously though, the knobs might drift downwards the longer I own it, but I prefer to have the option, ya know? I'd rather buy something with too much vs not enough.. The Fireball has more gain on 5.
