Been a big fan of Al Di Meola for quite some time now. My personal two favorite albums of his are Elegant Gypsy and Casino and I just love songs like Flight to Rio, Egyptian Danza, and... Midnight Tango.

I've been messing around with Midnight Tango for a little while now and just thought the tone on my RG8527 (Ibanez J. Custom) just sounds orgasmic on the neck pickup on clean. So I filmed a little cover of the song.

In the actual song, the guitars are clean, acoustic, distorted, and switch pickups a few times, but I didn't want to have to bother with changing Axe-FX presets by foot, so I just decided to go neck pickup on clean through the whole thing.

And if you've never heard Al Di Meola before... you're missing out big time. ;)

Before I watch this, I'm just going to GAS for your guitar for about an hour.
 I love this guitar. Looks great. Sounds great. Plays great. The pickups themselves are excellent. The tremolo stays in tune extremely well. Just an excellent guitar. :yesway:

good job :yesway:

Have to say that type of inlay is truly a weak spot for me. If i get a custom it has to have one of those vine inlays

J. C. U. S. T. O. M....

:holy:
 Hahahaha. I guess that's the best possible compliment the guitar could get. Thanks.

Okay, not that I was done obsessing over your guitar I was able to watch the vid. Good playing dude!
Thanks. :yesway: I can't play lead guitar anywhere near as fast as most people on here, but I have pride in my vibrato, legato, and other such techniques.

+1, though I'm not done obsessing yet. Great work man!

My favorite part of the video though is you just chillin' out over the elevator music intro.

His album Consequence of Chaos is pretty different and not elevator-like at all :fawk:

The cover was good too!

His new albums are great too, but I just prefer his first 3-4 albums from the 70s and 80s. He's a great guitarist and you just really can't go wrong with him.

About 5 months ago, I think...

I love how the tags to this thread makes it looks like "Al Di Meola attempts to cover a jazz fusion song by Naren."

Great tone and great playing! I really dig your vibrato on the longer notes. Not too shaky like Kirk Hammett on a cocaine binge yet not quite the elaborate wide circles you hear from Vai. Just a nice steady vibrato which is my favorite kind.

Oh and the guitar rules :agreed:

Thanks. :) I've always considered my vibrato to be one of the strong points in my playing and I've always thought that, for me personally, vibrato isn't done correctly unless it's steady (although I know there are a lot of modern metal guitarists who do really chaotic vibrato).

Nice sound, man. The playing could do with tightening up in places, though. But perhaps you're not trying to 'nail' this, just get its vibe, which you have done.

And just out of curiosity, on the faster sections, how come you're picking directly above the fretboard? Is that how you play normally, or were you going for a certain sound on those bits?

Also, kudos and good taste for choosing this track. It's certainly not one of the obvious ones to choose.
