Low output pickups sound better anyways, generally. Kick in a Tubescreamer boost or a clean boost pedal if you like the Blackdogs but need more heat.

even with the channel master cranked up a good bit higher than the other 2 channels there was a significant difference in volume. I could probably crank it a bit further than it is and see how that goes.

So turn it up higher till it matches? Knobs are there to be turned, not to worry about how one is set higher than the other

having run through the channels last night there is a significat increase in volume when i switch between channel 1 and 3 (3 being loudest) channel 2 is also louder than channel 1

this is with the masters set exactly the same.
