I'm never impressed by the "iTunes lineup" at all anymore...
I believe it will find all the media you've got on your Mac or PC and will stream that to your TV.So AppleTV still can't stream your own media, right? :noway:
So a $99 pseudo-HTPC? There has to be a catch.Incorrect. It will find all the media you've got on your Mac or PC and will stream that to your TV.
I'm really tempted to buy one of these now.
For $99, it won't cost you too much to find out. And if it doesn't work how you want, you can sell it to me! Win-win!So a $99 pseudo-HTPC? There has to be a catch.
Edit:
Apple - Apple TV - Rent HD movies and TV shows, stream Netflix, and more
I dunno, I don't see anything that hints that you can stream your own media. It looks like it all has to be via iTunes.
That's pretty sweet right there.Apple said:Channel surf, tap, and flick with the Remote app.
Control Apple TV using your iPhone or iPod touch. Download the Remote app free from the App Store. And with a flick of your finger, you can rent new movies and TV shows, scroll through the Netflix catalog, and browse your media collection. Remote uses the same easy-to-use interface you already use to browse music and video on your Multi-Touch device. So right away, you know how to navigate. If you want to find something specific, use your device's QWERTY keyboard to quickly tap out the title instead of clicking letters on the Apple TV screen. Then keep tapping to play, fast-forward, rewind, and pause to your finger's content.

I have two Minis that say I don't need one. :lol:For $99, it won't cost you too much to find out. And if it doesn't work how you want, you can sell it to me! Win-win!![]()
Basically, that's what it looks like to me too. Cool if you actually have a lot of iTunes media, and not a bad way to get your music collection into your home theater. The Apple TV only supports streaming through iTunes, and it does not support all formats last time I tried mine. It's an iPod for your TV, and I think it's pretty shitbox compared to a Mac Mini.
I don't torrent anything. I use the U-word. That magic place that we don't talk about. :lol:I don't torrent a lot of stuff, so it would probably work well for my needs.
It's also 1/6 the price of a Mac Mini. And since I have over 100 DVD movies already encoded to AppleTV compatible H264, I think it'll work nicely for $100.The Apple TV only supports streaming through iTunes, and it does not support all formats last time I tried mine. I use the Logitech version of that app on my iPhone for Plex, it's in the HTPC thread. :yesway: You can do it with a Touch, too.For $99, it won't cost you too much to find out. And if it doesn't work how you want, you can sell it to me! Win-win!
Did you see this part?
That's pretty sweet right there.
