I think the basswood hate comes from a combination of it's boring looks, in expensive price and it's use on cheap guitars. I thought it was strange seeing it in his sig because in a video of him demonstrating some Suhrs he goes on about how great mahogany is.

Steel has high tensile strenth. It is an AWESOME building material.

Would you now find it strange for me to opt for aluminum or bricks when building something?

Not at all. I'm just saying I know Guthrie is a proponent of mahogany, so I thought it strange that he used basswood.

Yeah I get what you guys are saying. It makes sense. I like different tonewoods too.

When he talks about mahogany in that vid though, it seems like it's his holy grail of tonewoods. So I thought it was a bit off that he would have a basswood body is all.
