NGD - Carvin DC127 w/ slightly less crappy pickups and Fishman

3098 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  zslane
It was a long wait for someone of my attention span, but it was worth the wait.

Haven't played it plugged in yet (stuck at work, working on a confusing as hell compute cluster) but acoustically it's pretty loud and resonant, as are all the Carvins I've bought, waited for, and then returned due to OCD tendencies. :D

Looking forward to not having time tonight to play it.

I really like it. The Holdsworth headstock is awesome plus all of the knobs and switches.
Wow, that looks great! I actually like that headstock on it!
yeah the HH headstock looks pretty cool. I was a little nervous ordering it on the DC, but it turned out nice. I'm going to copy Aaron's idea and get the Fishman Aura pedal for acoustic sounds, so that'll be cool.
Plugged it in and recorded dual tracks. The pickups are incomparably better than past forays into Carvin pickups, to the point where I might not rip them out immediately. Coil splitting is cool, as is the phase (then again I liked this already on my JS). Fishman piezo sounds like......a piezo. Fishman Aura pedal will definitely be incoming soon!

Really happy so far with this one. The 14" radius is a nice change too from the others I had (12").

Which Carvin pickups are those?
Sexyyyyyyy. Grats man. I went into the Carvin store in Hollywood 2 weeks back and now I am sold on getting a Carvin custom some day. :)

Nice Jeff!

What pups are in it?
The S22's. I dig them, and I hated the C22's and H22's.
Sexy :yesway:

And yeah, the Fishman Aura stuff is magical. Even if you only find one sound that you like with it, it's worth the money. And I've found at least 2-3 in the minimal amount of tweaking I've done with it

2 amp models from POD HD + piezo, all on separate tracks is a lot of fun. Don't know how I'll mix it though.

Would you bother putting S22s in another guitar?

Yeah they're pretty good so far. I've not had a lot of time through my main sound (Mesa), but through POD HD and Guitar Rig 4 it sounds good on a variety of sounds.
I recently pulled a set of S22s out of one of my Carvins (black bezels, gold covers). If you ever think you'd want them for some other guitar, just let me know.
