I would never, ever want to intentionally listen to this type of music but man it's cool to watch this dude play.

I don't like listening to Rusty Cooley either. This is the same thing. Impressive as hell but unlistenable IMO.Grow a pair ya pus.
yep. all really cool guys. they're really blowing up lately; it's awesome.thats my buddy spencer. he's a dedicated drummer. i'm stoked his band is doing so good.

Are you talking about ghost notes on the snare?Granted I don't pay a lot of attention to drummers, but that technique in the second video - I don't ever remember seeing that before. Where his left drumstick seems to pivot on the edge/frame of the drum. Just looks weird, but impressive.
I think he means the gravity blast beats - impressive stuff. these guys remind me a bit of cryptopsy with all the changes. Are you talking about ghost notes on the snare?
I remember around 2008 working with Eleven59's drummer at a call center, and he would start doing gravity blasts with a pencil on our bus ride home. Fucker. :lol:I think he means the gravity blast beats - impressive stuff. these guys remind me a bit of cryptopsy with all the changes.
It's called a "gravity blast". My old drummer was working on learning to do it.Granted I don't pay a lot of attention to drummers, but that technique in the second video - I don't ever remember seeing that before. Yeah, what you said  He never ended up using them in a song, because there was never a time where it sounded better than a regular blast.I remember around 2008 working with Eleven59's drummer at a call center, and he would start doing gravity blasts with a pencil on our bus ride home. I agree with this to a point. Anyone can probably get to a certain level of most muscle memory activity by just committing to a crazy practice routine but I dont think natural talent can be denied here. The archspire drummer is probably better than the likes of George Kollias, Derek Roddy etc at this very specific type of stop starty chaotic tech death drumming and those guys have been on the planet probably over a decade longer than he has and had many more hours spent practicing. It's called a "gravity blast". This is neat, but all of this kind of playing is basically just marching rudiments played across a whole kit, and learning to play fast with one hand. Anyone can learn to do it, it just takes a lot of practice.
ARCHSPIRE exploded onto the scene in the year 2009. The band grew out of the rich progressive side of the Canadian extreme metal scene that nurtured their predecessors VOIVOD, GORGUTS, CRYPTOPSY, BEYOND CREATION and more before them.
They set out to take the style to the next level, and their first two albums and tours saw them gain widespread international recognition in the technical metal community and beyond.
With their brand new album 'Relentless Mutation', ARCHSPIRE push the limits of extreme metal even further than before. 'Relentless Mutation' is supreme technical death metal colliding with the future at warp speed. The complexity and fluidity of the compositions is astonishing, and sees the ascendant band truly come into their own. 'Relentless Mutation' is the death metal record of 2017, and sees ARCHSPIRE emerge as one of the genre's apex predators.
Yeah, but they probably haven't been practicing the specific kind of drumming he's doing. It's all about specialization. A world class jazz drummer won't be able to do what he's doing, but this guy might be rusty as hell at jazz and incapable of loosening up (could be wrong, he might practice both styles, just a random example).I agree with this to a point. Not unimpressed. Just didn't find it very musical. It's physically and technically impressive, there was just never a moment that stuck out as being clever or creative. Just not my thing.ITT: Aaron is unimpressed by drumming at 350BPM
