From the Dean of the School today:
"I’m thrilled to announce that today is one for the history books: Thanks to a decade-long philanthropic effort and the generosity of our trustees, alumni, and friends, NYU School of Medicine will now offer full-tuition scholarships to all current and future students in the MD degree program, thereby becoming a “tuition-free” medical school. You heard it right: tuition free! The news was just announced to incoming first-year students and their families at the White Coat Ceremony.
Additionally, by making it possible for the best and brightest—no matter their backgrounds or socioeconomic status—to join our ranks, and the ranks of physicians across the country, we will be better able to make a difference in the lives of patients today and for many years to come. A population as diverse as ours is best served by doctors from all walks of life, and aspiring physicians and surgeons should not be prevented from pursuing a career in medicine because of the prospect of overwhelming debt. By giving the most talented and passionate prospects the opportunity to achieve their professional dreams, we are changing the face of medicine. "
Pretty cool, as this ain't exactly 'Bob's College of Medical Knowledge'
