Disclaimer: I know that posting pics of a side trip to a religious site isn't exactly the best idea with the other thread going on right now. I know a lot of people on here aren't religious, but I am, and I'd appreciate it if those of you who aren't would not post your views in this thread.

I went here tonight, to this little shrine on the side of a mountain, to check out a big ol' cross and some cool mountain views.

Our Lady of the Sierras Shrine Cross - Hereford, AZ - Christian Crosses on Waymarking.com

And it was awesome. I was the only person there! :yesway:

You walk up a stairway, and every so often is a cross with a depiction of the trials of the cross. There's a small church on top that I was able to go in, all the candles lit, completely by myself and hang out for a little while. The cross is 75 feet tall and hand carved, and pretty impressive to see. Definitely a very peaceful, unique place to hang out.

Despite the awesome photo-op potential, I managed to resist temptation and not bring my camera into the church to take a bunch of pics of candles and altars and such. I was rewarded (depending on how you look at it, hah) by seeing a little baby Rattlesnake outside on my way down the steps.

..Which I didn't take a pic of, come to think of it, despite having a freakin' SLR hanging off of my shoulder.

Anyway, just some touristy pics, no editing or anything and I didn't have a tripod w/me. I missed sunset by about half an hour, but it's on the wrong side of the mountain anyway.

Here's a few pics.

You saw a snake and took no pictures? Has Herbie taught you nothing?

Nice pics though. :yesway:

I was too busy thinking of how many metal bands would love to come here for album cover pictures.

Herbie would have laid the beatdown on the one I saw. The thing was tiny (and uh, "running" away from me), about the size of two pencils. I didn't know if Mom was around and it was pretty much dark as I was coming down the stairs, so I got the heck out of dodge.

I think most snakes abandon their young. But where you at the place is probably lousy with rattlesnakes big enough to seriously fuck you up.

Now that you mention it you could get some killer CD artwork there.

That Nordic style cross is amazing looking. Despite my general rejection of religion I am always impressed by the monuments to religions. Amazing sculptures and architecture. :yesway:

I'd love to see it myself. :)

Don't have to be religious to appreciate the beauty in this. Quite a great set of pics chris. I really dig that sculpture.

edit: Also if you'd prefer not to have this post in your thread simply delete it.
