Pod XT Pro or HD300?

I got a bit of a bonus from work last month and I can finally swing some cash on a guitar and Pod again. I'd got my head set on getting another XT Pro/FBV combo as I'm very familiar with it (I've had 3 before), plus I've got all the model packs sitting dormant on my account ready to load and a lot of tones backed up to the pc.

Idly surfing Ebay over the weekend I've noticed the HD300's go for around what it'd cost to get the XT Pro and FBV, so I'm starting to wonder which to go for.

Plus points to the HD are obviously it's newer with better HD quality models, but I've never tried one in the flesh and it doesn't have a 5150 model which has been the mainstay rhythm tone I've used on the XT. It does have Uberschall and Recto models though, which have been my other main amp sims of choice. One thing I can't work out is if I could still use the model packs with the HD, though I'm guessing not.

Plus points to the XT Pro are I can leave it connected up at my desk all the time and just unplug the FBV when I'm done playing (can't leave it laying around with two youngsters around). Since the HD is a floorboard modeller I'd have to keep unplugging everything every time. Also the XT Pro has an unprocessed out for my rack tuner.

So, what to do?

HD300 all the way, no contest. The HD destroys the XT.
What is this for? Recording? Practice? You haven't said exactly what you'll be doing with it, which is important, because hell, it's possible that neither of those two options will be a good option
HD series. You can get decent tones out of the Vetta-based modeling in the XT/X3/POD Farm stuff, but it's still not as good as the HD series.
Wirelessly posted :)sponge:: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yeah, I didn't realize how big a difference there was until I went back and listened through some of my demos. The stuff I did with the X3 just sounds thin by comparison.
For now this is just going to be for jamming at home with the odd rough demo recording just so I don't forget anything. If by some miracle I can get a band going my plan is to run a powered monitor with it.

The HD stuff is totally ass-kicking man. A powered monitor even moreso says "Go for the HD". :yesway:
Damn... You guys have my giving my XT the stinkeye now. Tonally, how much more metal per sq inch can I get with the HD Bean?

At least 15 right now, but likely it'll go up with firmware updates :yesway:

I keep hearing it had 10 times the "dna" in these models as the previous models.

The HD is ten times the modeler that the XT was man. I had an XT Pro, a Toneport with all the packs and an XT Bean. The HD totally erases all of them, it's the best product L6 has ever made, easily.
Those are some pretty tall endorsements guys. Damnit, now I'm gonna have to go to Zzounds and talk myself into getting one.

Question: will my metal pack transfer? Or is it not even needed/compatible with the new hotness?
Not compatible, not necessary.

I got my HD500 for $400 brand new, as an open-box at Daddy's. It was the display model.
I tried an HD out the other day at long and mquade through headphones, and even then it sounded better than the XT.

That's why I still would like one at some point, though I'm still holding out for POD Farm HD. That'd be awesome.
Can you re-amp with the HD set as your soundcard? I'm guessing so as you could with the XT series. If so, I think I could be talked into one of them, too.

Not yet. That's what has me waiting until at least Summer NAMM, to see if they release an HD version of POD Farm along with the POD HD Pro.

I actually use the reamping a lot in POD Farm.

According to the HD500 manual you can send dry signal to recorder via spdif output:

http://l6c.scdn.line6.net/data/l/0a...OD HD500 Advanced Guide (Rev B) - English.pdf

page 2.8

• S/PDIF Output (Knob 1): Selects the type of output mode signal fed to the S/PDIF OUT: Match Outputs (uses the same output setting as configured on the Page 4 Setup:Outputs screen - see page 2•7) or Dry Input (your Source Input signal with no Amp, Cab, Mic, "E.R." or FX processing applied).
