I noticed there is a new thing under the names for Main Acoustic Guitar, so I figured it would be cool to see what everybody is rocking.

This is my Contreras (built by Manuel Contreras I, his son, Manuel Contreras II, builds guitars as well). Its a lot nicer guitar than a player of my caliber deserves (worth a fair bit more than my entire rig) but heres the story behind it.

My Grandmothers brother was a professional guitarist in post war germany (mainly jazz/classical) and when he died (mid 1970s) he had accumulated a fair number of guitars. My grandmother and her brother inherited his collection and it was decided that they should keep his two favorites, a Ramirez and this Contreras, and sell the rest. Anyways my grandmother passed this down to my mother when she began playing classical guitar and it has now been placed in my care.

Yamah steel-string and Seneca classical. The steel string's probably my most well-travelled guitar; the poor thing's beaten to shit, but has never required any major work done to it, and still sounds excellent and plays like a dream.
The classical's a pretty cheap one, but actually sounds pretty good. Logged in a lot of time on it practicing Tarrega and Sor pieces.

Tacoma 12-string. A 21st birthday gift from my parents. Usually tuned to Open C. Need to do some recordings with it... Pity Tacoma went bust, as they made some beautiful guitars.

Aria acoustic fretless. Purchased while drunk on a day out with my best friend (seriously). Blends absolutely beautifully with other acoustic instruments.

A mandolin my parents and I found in an antique shop in Belgium. Totally unplayable at first, but my dad had a guy in Brussels restore it.

This is the one I built... Can't find my other pics of it, no idea where I uploaded them in the past... 24.9" scale length, Honduran mahogany neck, ebony board and headcap, Englemann spruce top/bracing, bracing is very similar to Martin bracing, back and sides are bubinga, ebony/maple binding all around, ebony bridge plate, bone nut and saddle.

I really want to make a new neck for it and refinish it. I love how it sounds already, but I find I'd like it to be a little bit brighter and I'd like to extend the scale. I've already figured out what scale I need to add 2 more frets to the end. I'm thinking of going maple fretboard and neck... Tried some maple neck'd acoustics and really liked how they sounded.

My Martin D-28, bought new in '96. I really, really love this guitar, since it sounds exactly like what you expect an acoustic guitar to sound like. If you hear an acoustic on a 60s or 70s album, it is probably one of these.

My Seagull S-12, which I've had since I was 19 years old. This is my workhorse in my cover band, and the pics don't show exactly how beat to shit it is.

My Ovation mandolin, which we have slowly been integrating into the cover band. Currently, I do only two songs on it.

There is already a disturbingly large amount of mandolins in this thread.

My sister has one and it must be the most uncomfortable neck ever, its pretty much a perfect v shape (not softened or anything).

Yeah, getting used to the mandolin neck has been rotten. Bar chords are extremely uncomfortable.

The small frets and the high tension strings don't help either. All that combined with it just being a small instrument just makes it supremely uncomfortable for me.

Its cool to see someone really shredding it up on the mandolin though. Theres a cowboy guy on a ranch up here that rips.

I got my first guitar,an Aria Pro II Knight Warrior in June of 86.I pretty much locked myself in my room with it and by December my parents surprised me with this for Christmas.A Yamaha FG-400..Still sounds great but could definitely use some work.

I bought this a few years later for $95.It's a Jasmine by Takamine.

I can't remember where I heard it first, but someone pointed out to me that she'd done 2-3 movies where she was beaten to death at the end, so now I just go into movies she stars in with the assumption that it's going to end that way :lol:

the one non-electric I own is a Suzuki Violin Company Flamenco guitar, it's a late 70s. Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, Spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood Sides and Back. It's probably worth significantly more than my entire electric rig, but I've never had it appraised. My girlfriend has a sweet '73 Martin D-35, though. It needs a refret, but it's the nicest-sounding acoustic guitar I've ever heard. Given to her by her Gramma, too.

An Applause AE-38 that I've had since I was 17. This was back before they started getting the ridiculous looking headstocks. Not a bad purchase for a hundred bucks.

I've got several more acoustics, but have no photos of them on at the moment. I've got an Alvarez RD8 that is really my main player after adding a strap pin and a piezo pickup. The Applause is in dire need of a refret, but I will not spend the money on it.
