I've googled but have not found any info on this specific amp. I have a fuck ton of IR's and would like to experiment with IR vs my actual cab.

The trick I speak of is plugging a cable from the FX Send to my Line6 Toneport. Of course still have the cab plugged in. I know some amps are capable of doing this, I found some specific ones...apparently the ENGL Fireball and Marshall JCM900 Combo are able to...but I have a Mesa, not an ENGL or JCM combo  Will this be alright, and will this result in silent recording? I can be loud when I want to be, but silent recording would give me time to experiment with actual cab vs IR's late at night....which gives me even more time to experiment and tweak tone.

Oops, this should be in Gear discussion...not recording.

Found the answer on the Boogie Board actually. For anyone interested: This will work and you can also use the slave out, but neither will mute the speaker so I will still need a dummy load of some sort. Damnit. :noway:

Yeah, don't run a tube amp without a load. Bad juju.

Definitely let us know how the dummy load works out if you go that way though. It'd be pretty cool to load up an impulse for your own setup, and see how close it actually is.

I know better than trying to use my head without a cab :yesway: ...wasn't going to try that at all. Was just wondering if using the FX send (or slave out) would it mute the cab(which it will not). I'm looking at Dummy Loads but they're all a bit out of my price range right now. :noway: I have a giant Impulse library and not sure if you checked out the link I posted above but that ENGL comparison video was pretty impressive to me. Before EQ there was virtually no difference. I clicked back in forth for about 20 mins just comparing.

I've seen the THD and the Weber....are there any alternatives that may be a bit cheaper? I don't need the attenuation either, just a dummy load that can handle a 50W amp.

Ok, so Weber is the cheaper option. They have two that seem to be the cheapest i'm going to find. Can't afford either right now but i'm going to be reamping my guitars anyway so I've got plenty of time to experiment with this.

You guys think these two would have any real tonal differences?

Resistor based, The cheapest option @ $75

https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/minimass.htm
Speaker motor based, more expensive @ $115

I really wish there was just a Dummy Load I could purchase, I don't need the attenuation for anything and I bet it would be Much cheaper if I could just find a 50 watt Dummy Load with No attenuation.

Or more expensive  First "Dummy Load" I find is $249

Fuck!

Could I get this thread moved to the gear/amp section where it should be? Maybe i'll have better luck on responses to cheaper solutions in the proper section.

E-Mail Weber. They sell loads for use with testing and amp repair, that will work fine for this purpose. The guy told me they sell quite a few to people for this very reason. I'd link you to the page, but it's not easy to find. Easier to just email them.

Don't get the THD Hot Plate for this. In my experience (with both a JSX and my Mesa DC-5) they do something funny to the tone when used at load.

EDIT

Hmmm, it's the TruLoad, but it's not as cheap as I thought it would be.

Still, for $140, that's not too bad.
