I somehow made it through the first song. Not only is it really bad, but Rusty is just CRANKED in the mix, burying everything when he takes a lead. It sounds like one of those awful 80s all star jams, where when someone takes a lead, it seems to come from nowhere, way too loud, make no sense, and disappear again.

singer kills it for me :noway:
:agreed:

I liked his soloing better on this song than on the other stuff I've heard from him. No fucking harmonic minor, for a start.

Get that man a singer, pronto!

Edit: I posted while the song was still playing. Sure enough, there's some harmonic minor toward the end.

I agree about his solo guitar being too forward. Is this an actual final mix?

Vocalist sounds fine to me. I actually vastly prefer it over the annoying clean vocals they had in Outworld
But nonetheless his phrasing and note choice still remains shitty, which is a shame because his speed technique is monstrous and nothing I could ever do.
He claims to be influenced by all the 80s shredders, but it's like he's totally deaf to all the awesome phrasing and note choice of guys like Satch, Vai, Marty Friedman etc and just only hears the fast stuff in their playing and just wanted to do that, only faster and much worse sounding.

I'm the opposite, I think Kelly Carpenter is an awesome vocalist. This guy just sounds like a second rate reject from the trend metal of 5 years ago.

This is something which annoys me greatly about him. Biggest example I can see of his mindset is on the demo version of City Of The Dead, there is a section in the solo where he slows down and does some really awesome wailing bends. What happens when it came to recording it for the Outworld album? Replaces all the slow stuff with alternate picked runs at WTFbpm

BTW I'm not saying Outworld's vocalist wasn't good.
He's obviously a highly skilled vocalist, but I'm just not a fan of the tonal characteristics of his voice, that's all :)

Kelly was a great singer, but man Carlos Zema was killer! I really liked Outworld's album, some of the solos got on my nerves, but some of them were great. I really liked Zema singing Warcry. Not really digging this new band.

EDIT: Retracted for being dickish. Sorry.

On the upside, Rusty (while I still haven't heard nothing of his that I like), Matt and that Andretti guy are fantastic musicians in their own right.

 Whatever, I'm a Rusty Cooley fan. Sure, he's over the top - that's what I dig about him. He's completely unabashed about it.

Can't listen to this from work, but I'll check it out tonight.
