Sacha Baron Cohen Playing Freddie Mercury in Queen Film - Today's News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

I like this a lot! I just wonder if he can pull off a serious drama. No doubt he can character act.

I think he'll be very good. Although his past roles have been comedies, you have to admit that he has the ability to completely transform himself.
I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if they'll make false teeth?

That would be funny and all, but kind of insulting to Freddy's legacy. :\ I'm not optimistic about this, and I'm not even really a Queen fan at all. (Respect and appreciate their body of work, the music's just not my thing.)
we'll see where this goes, I'll keep an open mind, but I wont get my hopes up.
I'm pretty certain if anyone could do it, it's Sasha Baron Cohen.

Dude I so love the 70s :agreed:

If I were alive in the 70s, my favorite bands would've been Deep Purple, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Queen.

I love Queen's music. LOVE Queen's music. So I'm pretty excited to see this movie. Hopefully it'll be pretty good.
I love Queen and Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest singers in rock and roll history.

Sasha Baron Cohen is definitely great at acting. Sure, he's only been in comedies, but if he gets serious and really gets into the roles, I'm sure he could do a great job playing Freddie Mercury. He's really good at that kind of stuff.

With that said, even if he does a great job playing Freddie, that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a good movie. Hopefully it is, though.
Chris, they wrote We Are the Champions, One Mission, Bohemian Rhapsody, and every piece of music in all the Highlander films (even the shit ones).

Which reminds me, about Cohen's line in Talladega Nights... "Ricky Bobby, I saw your Highlander. It was shit."

Now he's playing Freddie Mercury, whose voice is all over the Highlander films
^ Nice catch.

Here's hoping. He looks the part.

He's playing in the next Scorsese so I guess he'll be fine with it.
I honestly can't think of a better actor to do this, no joke.

And I am a huge Queen fan.

I love Queen. Definitely one of my favorite bands. I went through a hard core 70's kick in high school for some reason, after I became tired of the state of metal at that point. Queen, Boston, Journey, Rush, Kansas, etc.

I hope he pulls it off. They should get Mika to sing any parts needing singing, if they don't just completely overdub existing Mercury tracks.

^ :agreed:

The guy loves his Mercury, and has the inflections down.
^ :agreed: That was one of the first things my buddy said when I told him about this. I think Sacha could almost pull it off himself, but Mika's already got it pretty nailed and could probably get it dead on with a little more work.

But it's not like Sacha's not familiar with singing (not the greatest example since it's deliberately over-done, but you get the idea  ):
