Dude needs to remember it's a fuckin' game. This is probably to appease the betting crowd.

I think the point is to prevent the onslaught of "do-overs" that would come once they set the precedent. I was watching a game last night and the announcers debated it for about 2 innings.

I agree somewhat that it shouldnt be reversed, thats a slippery slope. The human element if a huge part of the game, creates controversy, spurs debates, water cooler talk, etc. Imagine how boring sports talk radio would be without bitching about bad calls?

=)

The other part feels bad for the kid that got robbed of the perfect game though.

It was awesome to see the ump step up though. Kudos to him for sure.

I think the call should have been made right. Going forward I think each team gets a single replay each game. If the manager choose to use it on that particular play than so be it.

^ :agreed: There are 11 bajillion cameras focused on ever player, every minute of the game. There's no reason that 1 of them shouldn't be used to overturn calls like this one.

What if this was game 7 of the world series, tied 1-1, and the next guy up hit a home run when the game should have been over?

Yea, well. Aluminium bats have been proven to add 5 miles an hour to ball speed and hit further than wood bats. Why will they never allow the major leauges to use them? Tradition. You wouldnt be able to compare the records that have been set for a hundred years.

Same here, they cant just go and suddenly start doing replays when 100 years of great ball players didnt have the same advantages.

Its not fair to compare apples ( non replay) with oranges ( replays)

Well, Galarraga got a Corvette out of the deal, and once we have instant replay he'll make millions with his book deal. I can see it now. "28 Up, 28 Down: The Game That Modernized Baseball," by Armando Galarraga (with Rick Reilly). It'll be full of pity insight and jokes about teeth.

Its not fair to compare apples ( non replay) with oranges ( replays)
Then, uh, why did you? Bats and replays are apples and oranges. One's a miscarriage of justice that leaves results of games in doubt due to human error, the other's a bush-league equipment upgrade that makes baseball more dangerous and replaces a satisfying CRACK of a home run with the horrific CLANK of a ground rule double :lol:

Somehow I think it's not exactly the same game it was in 1910 anyway :)

A few points off the top of my head that have changed since then - in 1910:
* Doctoring the ball was allowed
* Taller pitcher's mound
* Bigger strike zone
* Different composition of the ball (I think)

I didnt dude:lol:

I'm saying that you cant change something like a bat, something that is gonna make a HUGE differance. Or like a replay, that is gonna make a HUGE differance.

And keith, SURE alot has changed, some things are gonna here and there. It was gonna take awhile to settle on alot of details like that, but replays are gonna completely change the game. I think it would be better, but IMO, if you start doing replays, its not fair to keep the records in the same context against years and years of players that didnt have that.

And sure its not the same as it used to be. Players have it down to a science, and practice everyday all the time. But somethings are just gonna change no matter what you do.

I think the moral of the story is to perhapse rely on the refs. And if you have 80 year old men that make the wrong call, then you gotta get rid of them and get someone that can actually see that isnt practically at death door to make the calls

Lastly, I guess its just me apperently:lol:, but for a game that prides itself on timeless tradition, it seems strange that all the fans seem to like this idea. I think it underminds the ideals of the game.

Chris, you're dead wrong on this one, bro. As people correctly point out. Your analogies fall apart under examination. Just because the game has labored for years under the folly of human error doesn't mean it's just that it continues to do so, when the means to redress said errors exists, and is easy to implement. Bud Selig is a moron. :noway:

This is a travesty. A PERFECT game. That is such a rarity. It's absurd.

Clearly you know nothing about baseball. They already have replays albeit homeruns only. Everyone was bitching about that. Guess what? It has worked flawlessly. The umpire made the call he saw. Not every call will be right but they are way more right than wrong. Also its umpires not refs just like its runs not points :lol:

Like keith said a lot has changed. As it should. Also that ump is like 50 and looked fine. :noway:
