A question for the aussies or for those of us who've done business with them - what do you guys recommend to mail a guitar to Australia? Any horror stories I should be aware of, or providers that are significantly cheaper than the others? Thanks! :metal:

Not to. Shipping is extortionate, size limits are ridiculous, and it's a bloody hassle having to write everything upside down.

i shipped an rg out there, took the neck off to make the box smaller. cost 150 bucks, took more than a month to arrive with no good tracking. Make sure to make whoever you are shipping to painfully aware of that fact or be prepared to answer insane emails for a month

It's DDDorian, so I'm sure he knows 1.) what he's in for, and 2.) I'm not going to try to screw him.

What'd you use to ship, crucified?

Hmm. I was going to ship the guitar case'd up (which necessitates shoping for a case, since I don't have one). Maybe I should explore that option first...

I use USPS to ship to Australia, and it is generally fairly high. Fedex and UPS have always quoted me 300 plus sums, where USPS is roughly 150-200 depending on the size. Be aware that certain areas in AUS have size limits (because of the USPS counterparts there, not because of AUS, in general.) that with prohibit a full guitar+case in dimensions. I hate when that happens, because that means you are stuck with either UPS of FEDEX at the Captain Insano rates.

I've shipped about a half dozen guitars to AUS over the years, with 2 being within the last 12 months. It is never cheap or quick by any means.

I used canada post as they quoted me the 150 rather than the 3- 500 that fedex/ups were quoting me. It would have been more if the neck was on too, i'm sure of it. I've talked people out of buying inexpensive guitars from me that wanted it shipped to aus because the shipping/shipping time/import fees would cost more than getting the guitar new.

Fuck, I've been playing with FedEx and USPS and given the estimated box size I'm looking at, I'm getting "nothing we offer will let you ship this package to Australia." :/

Holy fuck, UPS just gave me "either" a $600 or $550 quote to ship, in a standard sized guitar box, depending on how quickly I want to get it there.

Yeah. :/ Even then, he honestly may be better off just going from Kurt, I'll have to look into how to package it in pieces, and it's going to be a busy two weeks. :/
