To help keep my upcoming shipping costs to Norway down, I've just been presented with an opportunity to unload my Marshall 1960 cab, and buy this:

It's a 1990 Mesa .50 Caliber + in almost dead mint cond., sounds really nice with a Celestion C90, and sounds deadly through a closed-back cab. My plan is to not schlep a 4x12 overseas, bring this and my Vetta head, and then buy a Diezel 2x12RL cab after I get there, to use with either the .50 or the Vetta. This little beastie is so nice to just pick up and go for a jam, is loud as hell, and really nails great old-school thrash tones as well as chimey, blackface-type cleans with. It's surprising how great condition it's in for a 20 yr old amp, too.

Good plan, or not?

Yeah, I'm finding that I don't think I'll be needing a 4x12 anymore (too big, and not necessary) after I get over there, so I'll be looking for a good 2x12, probably a Diezel rear-load is what I'm checking into. Marshalls are easy to find anywhere, true.
I'll be bringing a couple of 1000w step-down transformers with me as well. It's waaaay cheaper to buy this stuff here and bring it over, than buy there...gear and tools are very expensive in Norway. :ugh:

Do it, 1960's are easy as hell to come by in Europe anyway if you miss it, which I can't see why you would...
Norway isn't europe though in the sense you're thinking, try ordering something from abroad and you get punished with huge import taxes and vat even on used goods, so you might aswell buy new.

looks to be totally worth it, i´ve heard nice things recorded with those :D

that EQ curve looks painful though

also, i´m curious about whether or not customs would react to Potty... that could be interesting

Great sounding, very underrated amp. Plus, since the tubes are bottom mounted, you can transplant the amp into a shorthead shell. The .50 cal is also the same dimensions as the Marks, so you don't have to buy a .50cal headshell.

Rad! Wasn't that one of the main amps used in the recording of Contradictions Collapse?
Indeed, as well as all the solos in DEI.

Fucking do it! :scream:

Short of the Mark IIC+, the .50 Cal.+ saturated distortion is my favorite in their entire brand. :yesway:
It's very tight and drips with gain, harmonics pop out effortlessly The distortion was what won me over :)

Yes, for $500 CDN, it seems like a good price for this, I'm going to grab it.

I'm hoping there won't be any issues. I've had a couple of cops see it - one just chuckled, and the other thought they were very realistic decals, and when I told him about what it was, he just said he doesn't see a problem, and if anyone does, they're the ones with the issue because you can't do anything with it, and besides it's "artistic". The fact is those leaves are indeed real Cannabis, but came from a hemp rope/clothing farm, which uses strains that produce virtually no THC, which leaves have practically none anyways, as any smoker would tell you ;) Then, they're under about 8 thick coats of polyurethane - can't pull it up and smoke it, eat it, do anything with it. Can't smell it either.

I think just to be safe though, as I'd rather just not have to explain it again (ad nauseum), I'll just cover the whole body with black duct tape and restring it, hopefully that will be enough.

I thought about that too, and maybe some day I may build a head shell from some nice flame maple, or cherry red mahogany (like a SG) would look bomb too. For now, it's handy as it is.

that´s exactly why i think it would be interesting. alot of people are so close-minded about these things that they would consider your guitar a drug trafficking scheme or something. there are people that are against hemp, because of it being that type of plant. nevermind the fact that you can´t get high off of it, ITS MARIJUANA AND THATS THE DEVIL LEAF

anyway, you´re probably safe if you duct tape it like you said. i don´t think everyone in customs are totally educated as to how weed works and stuff. MANY people think you smoke the leaves.

slipping off-topic here

the c90 speaker seems interesting. i´ve heard lots of hype about it.
