So these interweb tablet things...

School me on them.

I checked out the Kindle Fire today. Pretty cool and the price is right.
What else is there in that price range? The place I was at also had the Nook Color but the demo model was fucked so I couldn't really check it out.

I was also looking at the Archos 101 or 70(online). Seems cool and basically in my price range. I do like the 10" screen of the 101 but I'd really like to check one out in person. The USB, Micro SD and HDMI are a huge plus on this one but like I said, I'd like to check it out first. But so far, the Archos is kinda winning.

Basically, I don't really care about storage capacity so 8gb will do just fine. WiFi only is cool too. I really just want one for casual web browsing. I go here, bmxmuseum.com, craigslist, ebay, check my email and look at porn while on the shitter. And if I don't have wifi, I can just use my phone but I hate smart phones so there. And for what I do on the interwebz, I really don't need to have my big ass power hungry computer turned on all day. Plus, I have a ton of down time at work + free wifi there so this would help kill a lot of time. :D My phone has wifi but I hate using it for web browsing.

And before anybody suggests it, I've played around with my buddies iPad, and yes it's super cool but for what I want one for, $500 is a bit much. :D

Woot has a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 for $319. That's a pretty good deal, and the android tablet I would get.

To be constructive, both the Nook Tablet and the Fire are getting pretty decent reviews in terms of value for the money. They don't do as much as the iPad, but they're 1/2 or more as expensive. for what you're using, I'd personally go with the Amazon because of their services that tie into it, as well as having the Amazon Android Store. Chris actually has one though, so he's more qualified. I'd stay away from the Archos stuff. Not very well built, doesn't have the Android market, etc.

Cool. Been reading and watching a bunch of reviews on the Archos and the common theme seems to be that it's junk.

And every place I went today, the Nook demos were all not working with the back popped of. Kind of odd.

Tried out a Samsung Galaxy Tab (7") for $299(probably about $250 after my discount stuff). Was pretty cool. Easy to use since it's basically a giant version of my phone but... as soon as I went to type in a web address the little(and I mean little) virtual keyboard came up. It was seriously damn near the same size as the one on my phone when it's sideways. Unless you can adjust the size of it, that was a total deal breaker. It also seemed kind of sluggish as far as touch response went. But that could be because of the all the greasy "I just ate at KFC and didn't wash my hands" smudges all over it.

I also played around with an Acer Iconia 7" tablet. Has a lot of cool features. HDMI out which would be cool for streaming stuff on my tv. Dual core processor with 1gig of ram so it was fast. Bluetooth. Cameras both front and rear(so I can post pictures while I'm taking a dump :D). Non-mobile websites looked great on it. 8gb HD but it has usb so I can easily unload shit onto my computer, etc... And it was, I think, $249. A little out of the range I wanted to spend but I think it might be worth it.

The Acer is a definite front runner with the Kindle Fire. I'm almost leaning towards the Acer for the extra $$.

Also, after playing around with all of these, I way prefer the 7" screen over the 10" ones.

As I said, I have an iPad and a Fire, and screen for screen, I like the 7" on the Fire better as well. It's perfect for just throwing on the coffee table for when I want to check the web and some bullshit.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the keyboard is REALLY sensitive, as opposed to the iPad. I think the Galaxy Tab has the same problem, so I have a feeling it's more of an android thing than a Fire thing. The iPad is a lot easier to type on.
