I HATE the opener, but the rest of the album is pretty good, and it seems to get better as it goes along. "Let This River Flow," "The Akuma Afterglow," and the intro to "Enter Dog of Pavlov" are all incredible.
The mix, on the other hand... The writing is great, which makes it doubly frustrating. I keep wanting to hear what this would have sounded like with a lusher, more Devin Townsend inspired production. :/
I also stopped listening to them after NBC. Their earlier stuff was what first got me into melo-death. I'll have to give this new one a few more listens. I listened to it once and wasn't impressed.
The chorus of Two Lives Worth of Reckoning - exactly my kind of music :agreed:
Having said that, yeah the production blows on this disc. I'm with Drew in that the album is pretty great other than the first track. When you compare the mix with Natural Born Chaos, Figure Number Five, or Stabbing the Drama, it just pales in comparison, which is sad. It saddens me. I'm a cry.

I like all those albums to some extent.
The chorus on "Nerve" is just so fucking groovy, I find myself listening to that song way more than any other off STD.
No, the production is not about to top Stabbing the Drama or Gojira's The Way of All Flesh as far as production references goes, but on an overall scale, bad production?
Peter Wichers is a great engineer and Jens Bogren always delivers a pretty damn good quality mix to my mind, and this album is no exception.
Their best album since NBC, for sure.
The leads are so fucking tasty.
The songs are on fire.
Soilwork are back on top of the game as far as I'm concerned.
That was awful, the guitars sound like a swarm of bees. What the hell is that anyway? Doesn't have much in common with Soilwork, or Melodeath in general, outside having 2 types of vocals....
Edit: Googled them: Black metal. No wonder I don't like it.
Oh well, I tried. They're more than music. And seriously, in most black metal, bands that aren't satanic write with more emotion and feeling than boring shred melodeath. The satanic ones irritate me. :scream:
I dig the album a lot. I didn't like their last one so it's good to hear them being back on track. I agree that the production is not up to scraps though. It's not bad, it just misses that "oomph" to make it sound killer. Solid effort imo! :metal:

I only have natural born chaos (which fucking sucks), is this any better?

 Follow the Hollow and As We Speak are awesome! NBC is my favorite Soilwork disc by far. When I first heard AWS it sounded like Dream Theater but with more balls and a killer singer. Love it!
I guess I am barking up the wrong tree  I just found the riffing in Soilwork boring. Negura Bunget just does it for me. Awesome riffs and melodies, etc. I can understand that people here might not be interested in them because there are no solos, but that's not the point of the music.
