Soldano on the Hot Rod 25, EVH, and Variacs

Skip to 7:04 since it's just bullshit playing and what's important here is Soldano thoughts. He starts with a story about EVH.

It seems like this would be the perfect kind of design for vintage style amps (mainly Marshalls) that rely on power amp distortion. I wonder why more Marshall style builders haven't messed around with it. It seems like making a variac knob where one could adjust the plate voltage would be awesome. I know Fortin does something like that. That way you can put the voltage up if you need the headroom and then lower it for to push the power amp easier.

Very cool story. He's apparently not a car guy (the Syclone was GMC, and it had a turbo V6 in it), but that's alright, he sure as hell knows amps!

Yeah, after getting a JCA22H, the HR25 is on my short list. With how much it costs, though, it's going to stay there for a little while :lol:

The Soldano SLO has been on my short list since the late 90s. I finally got one the end of 2014. It was worth the wait.

True. But I'd never use the baby one. The money could be spent better on something else I don't need, like a Z Wreck or an Ecstasy
