I'v always used sperzels, but on my baritone warmoth I'v been going with some different options than usual. I'v been thinking about some schaller lockers instead of my usual sperzels. Other than a higher gear ratio, does anyone have any reason they like one over the other? (obviously you can get different buttons and colors with sperzels)

Sperzels are machined much more tightly than Schallers and others because anodizing the color onto aluminum is much thinner than the plating used on other tuning machines, which can be of a varying thickness so the parts on plated tuners need to have some "play" in them to allow different plating thicknesses to mate with each other.

Sperzels do feel a little smoother to me, and the lower gear ratio hasn't ever bugged me. If you've used Sperzels before, I'd say stick with them; no sense fixing what ain't borked.

FWIW, I have Sperzels on my ESP and Schallers on my Warmoth; both work absolutely fine, although the locking thumbscrews on the Schallers are a little easier to grip and the Sperzels feel a lot smoother in operation.

I've owned both, and they're of equal quality. The Schaller minis are a drop-in replacement for all Gotoh minis and most OEM mini tuners.

Which, really, is enough to put them way ahead of Sperzel in my book.

I think Sperzels feel a bit more solid, but there's definitely a lot to be said about pre-existing compatibility.

Ive got guitars with Sperzels and Schallers, and I vastly prefer the Schallers, they feel much more solid to me, and have a better ratio. These are the oversized Schallers that are made for Vigier however, so Im not sure how standard Schallers compare, Id imagine not too much difference though.
