There are some phenomenal parts in this movie and a couple of parts that brought tears to my eyes.

But the more I think about this movie and the more I think about the answers I didn’t get. I’m kind of mad about.
Honestly, I wish George would have just finished these movies up til 9 and then sold it to Disney. As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been disappointed with Disney’s take so far.

Even Mark Hamill came out to say that he wished Disney would have listened to George Lucas and his suggestions for this 8th movie.

+1 to the giant shooting machines looking ridiculous with those body kits. I was like, really? Is this Gundam or something?

I saw this movie tonight and overall it was good, but not as good as Rogue One or even Episode VII (which I was actually quite disappointed about). There were some pretty cool scenes in it, but my biggest problem was with how many stupid jokes and silly laughs they were going for. Some of it is fine, but they really went overkill on it. I will say that Mark Hamill did a great job, as he always does. Always a joy to watch him act.

I have mixed feelings about TLJ, but I'll have to do a rewatch to fully make up my mind about it. There was a few plot points I didn't like, and I felt the humour was very hit or miss; I did not like the interaction between Hux and Poe in the opening scene for example, but I thought the porg stuff worked. I have to disagree with the negativity against Disney however, as I have the impression that they give Lucasfilm free reins to do pretty much whatever they want (within reason); after all, owning the rights to Star Wars is like printing money, so why would they care? So if anyone should be blamed for "ruining Star Wars" it's Lucasfilm, not Disney.

Mark Hamill is awesome in this movie. That is for certain. I fell in love with Luke more than ever now.

I feel Ridley and Hamill did the best with what they were given, but I am very, very disappointed.
Then again, I turned Looper off midway through, so I guess I’m not surprised.

And I’m someone who has lived and breathed SW since I was 5, and even made excuses for the prequels.

When Episode VII first came out, I said it wasn't as good as Episode III (Revenge of the Sith). And, well, I still think that. I think that Episode III is better than both Episode VII and Episode VIII. Rogue One, though, I think is WAY better than any of the prequels or new Star Wars episodes, so I do think they can still make some excellent stuff.

Current ranking of all the SW films:

Empire Strikes Back
Rogue One
The Force Awakens
A New Hope
Revenge of The Sith
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace

After seeing this, I'd say it's on par with Revenge of the Sith; which, I don't even really hate that movie, it's story is solid and I see what it's trying to do, it just had terrible writing and dialogue that bring it down. Not to mention they (Lucas) screwed themselves bridging the gap between the two because it makes the time that passes between 3 and 4 seem like much longer than it really should have been.

Poetic pretentiousness first:

An old man at the end of his journey stares out at twin suns with the eyes of a young man who's journey is just about to begin; and all is as it should be.

That said, I do have some strong feelings about certain aspects:

The humor - only Han was snarky in the originals, and even the prequels didn't try to force humor in after Phantom Menace/the great Jar Jar blunder - so don't try to put it in this new trilogy.

Rose - everything with her felt forced and like an afterthought. I'm curious how Finn's scenes would be if she wasn't in them, since as far as I can tell, the only thing she did was provide the necklace for them to break in to the room with.

Leia - only issue here was her ridiculous bridge survival that lead to her suddenly being able to fly via the Force; but to quote her now dead husband, "that's not how the Force works!" No clue what they were they were thinking.

Snoke - For all the hype, he certainly went down rather simply; but maybe that's the best part of it? He was caught monologuing and he paid the price for it. Occam's Razor and all that, the simplest solution is often the correct one.

Phasma - another victim of hype, I feel like she'll be the Boba Fett of a new generation: a cool suit, too little screen time, and an untimely death.

All that being said, it did have high moments that I enjoyed and were great - animatronic Yoda giving guidance to Like, Luke's line to Leia - which lets he real, this was writers to the audience about Carrie - saying no one is ever really gone, Rey taking up the torch of the Jedi and continuing the balance.

Imperial Guards - finally, they're worth a shit!

Thing I'm looking forward to: new fighter designs hopefully, since all the X-wings and bombers are currently destroyed. Kylo Ren's new helmet, or if he'll continue as an unmasked Supreme Leader for the First Order. Ren's construction of her own lightsaber using the crystal from Luke's old one.

I'm anxious to see how they close out this series.

It seemed like everyone who's posting in here has now seen it, so that's why I just posted it as is.

I guess I should go back and a preface saying spoilers

Definitely shows how different people's opinions are, but that's just part of being human. For me, it'd be:

The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Rogue One
Revenge of the Sith
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace

I like 7 a little more than 3, but that’s me. I’d put 8 below 2, to be honest. Even 2 was enjoyable at times, and Ewan MacGregor is awesome.

In fact, Daisy Ridley reminds me a lot of MacGregor, in that they’re both good at polishing turds, MacGregor is just a little better at it.

Mine would go:

The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Rogue One
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Last Jedi
The Phantom Menace

If you edit out Jar Jar and make it a 1.5hr movie, I’d even put Phantom Menace higher.

I get what TLJ was trying to do, but most of them seemed like shit talking someone after they died before the bodies even cold.

Luke receives his lightsaber and then throws it over his should like junk? Just have him hand it back while he walk away, or drop it fear of all that it brought to him - but to throw it out? Nah.

After only one viewing, I'd rather watch Phantom Menace again than watch The Last Jedi. I'll watch TLJ again when it comes to BluRay, but right now it's easily the worst SW movie for me.

Mark Hamill is what makes this movie worth watching. And him being featured also what makes it so disappointing for me, because that's why I was so excited for this movie, that's why I had my hopes so high up. My disappointment about the prequels was limited because those were just "something extra", not featuring the original cast.
But when Luke Skywalker is back, you have an obligation to make this worth a shit. And this "Looper" guy failed.

In the future we'll have no more Leiah, and if there will be Luke, only as force-spirit. So mainly no more original characters,

Regarding storylines:

Besides the Rey/Luke/Kylo storyline, everything else is just completely useless filler material. And being honest, the remaining story is more or less Empire Strikes Back with a New Hope ending. Which I could live with frankly spoken, but the rest is such a snoozefest, UP AND FOREMOST the Finn/Rose storyline, holy shit what a failure.
And all this filler shit wasn't necessary at all, because the main storyline had still much room left - instead they chose to make the biggest shortcut ever with Rey's force-"education". First try, all shaking up, force-level 9000 mastered - next.
Snoke - why build him up as such a mistery, out of a sudden there is a strong and powerful Sith that could influence Ben/Kylo from far away (ws it so? how? what happened? again: story material EN MASSE available...)

TALKING ABOUT A BUILT-UP MISTERY - excuse me for repeating myself, but why build up the whole Rey's-parents thing up in TFA with crashing it like that now?

The force-flying-Superleiah in space thing....i really hated that scene. Who thought that this was a good idea? I mean come on...

The Gorilla AT-ATs...who signed off on this? They look so super fucking ridiculous, it ruined the whole - otherwise epic - battle, and then the slapstick-Spaceballs shit with all of them firing the shit out on Luke, Hux macking edgy comment, Kylo force-throwing him, Soldier repeating
The whole build up of this scene made me so fucking angry, that at the time Luke faded I wasn't moved anymore. I really ruined THAT scene for me actually.

I admit though, that I re-watched this fading/twin-suns scene numerous times meanwhile before my mind's eye and it made me very sad. If the hour before it hadn't been such a shit movie, I most likely would have cried in the cinema, I admit it.

i will stick to the new Machete order:
Rogue One
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Return Of The Jedi

:agreed:

So I still haven't decided if I like the movie entirely yet. It was fun, I was on the edge of my seat, and every character was constantly in real danger and you didn't know what was going to happen next. Not sure I agree with some of the decisions made in this movie, and the whole casino planet subplot was contrived and awful. This felt more like an Avengers movie than Star Wars, but that seems to be the direction we're going in now. Having said that, Mark Hamill steals the show in this one, and I constantly wanted more time between Rey and Luke. This movie felt like a conclusion, not a middle part. Kylo rules the empire, Rey is rebuilding the Jedi and the Resistance. Ok cool. Well that's a wrap on the duology.

No doubt about the Mark Hamill comment. He's awesome, and did the best with the turd sandwich he was given.

Spoilers ahead of character. I don't know how to block it.

Mark Hamill fought and mentioned in several interviews how he tried to keep Luke the way he was from the Original films because what we got in this movie was not Luke Skywalker.
