Stiletto Ace Combo or Head?

So I was looking at some clips at the Mesa Lonestar and came across a clip of a Stiletto Ace. HOLY FUCK. Hit me in all those tingling spots in my body. So I did a ton of research on here on them and found out that the Ace seems to be the favorite out of the three variations and that's fine with me since I'll rather have 50 watts. Sadly I won't be able to afford one for a while unless a huge deal comes my way so I'll rather be prepared

So now onto my fucking question. How awesome is the combo cab? Seems to get really good reviews and I'm wondering if it would be smarter to get the combo. From what I read it seems like Mesa put a lot of effort into the cabinet. Also I know that it weights a fuck ton but I'm not gigging so that doesn't matter too much. If I go the head route I'll get an Orange or Mesa cab with V30's.

Thanks for any help guys.

Do NOT get the combo, unless you like hernias. It sounds awesome though. I'd rather have the head if I were to do it again.
Wirelessly posted :)dio:)

He's not gigging, though. Of the two, it is the better sounding setup, so no reason not to get the combo.
If it's above 15 watts, you should pretty much always get the head.

True. Neither am I though, and I hated just carrying it down the stairs!
As noted above, the combo is herniatingly heavy.

However, having played the Ace head with the Stiletto 2x12 and the Stiletto combo, I do agree that the combo sounds a little better.

There are always a few used ones on GC's used site. I am ALWAYS tempted, because it's an amazing amp. For Mesa fans, it's a Marshall.
What about the combo makes it sound better? It's closed back, so it's not that...
Thanks for all the information guys! It always helps that I really like the green it comes in a lot so getting the cab would look better than a green amp head with an orange cab.

Also regarding hernias, it seems like I will buy a cart to move it when necessary

Yea I grew up around guys who played stuff like Fender bassman and twin reverbs, Marshall Bluesbreakers, and Vox AC30's. I don't mind bigger combos basically

Why did you sell it? Too loud, needed the money?

Everyone on here gave great reviews of the combo specifically so that's why I was asking the question. I looked up reviews of the combo and here is a description of the cab for it, not sure it the guys who have tried the combo would agree but we'll see their thoughts.
"Part of this sonic success is due to the amp's circuitry; the rest is thanks to the speaker enclosure's unique shape. The tuned cabinet has a sloped ceiling whose curvature improves air circulation and lets the speaker breathe between excursions. The result is quicker transients, a natural reverb effect and increased dimensionality. In fact, this cab sounded more like a small-box 4x12 than any 1x12 cab I've heard." -Source

It blew up. Long story, but it was damaged by GC chimps. Not the Stiletto's fault.
Kinda on topic, sorta:

Apprently the Royal/Trans Atlantic line is the replacement for the Stiletto series.. How are those?

Why do you want to sound like Mark Morton?

If I was going to build a career off of Testament riffs, I'd play in a Testament cover band ;p

I really was curious if the Atlantics are a worthy successor to the Stilettos or if they're entirely different.

Edit: Just watched the video he did for the RA100. That one riff he did that sounds like Down For Life was pretty awesome through that amp.
Head for sure. I have owned 3 Stilettos in my day (all heads) and they weighed a ton. I can only imagine what a combo would weigh!?! They are perfect amps for classic/hard rock but dont get very nasty withous a boost out front. IMO. Killer amps and u can usually find them pretty cheap...

I don't think they sound as good as the Stilettos.

Fuck :\ That scares me since that who I'll probably get it through down the line.

Also yea I fully agree with this. I've been listening to as many clips of stilettos that I can and honestly they nail the clean and lead tones that send chills up my spine.
I own a Deuce II head, but haven't played the combo.

As far as the TA's go, I REALLY loved the TA-15. Not a metal amp, more rock'n roll.

Simple solution (which I unfortunately didn't follow) is to have it shipped to the closest store, and bring a screwdriver.

1. Take the chassis out, look for signs of impact. Make sure the sockets are solid.

2. Put it back together and plug it back in, and give it a go.

If the morons at GC don't want you to do that, then hand them the receipt, and ask for your money back.

Stilettos are simple amps; there's not a lot to them. Seeing if something's wrong, at least outwardly so, is pretty easy.

I like the lower-gain and Voxy tones better than the Stiletto IIs. For gain, I haven't had a chance to crank up a RA100 yet to try it out.
