I've grown to love the Evo 2 in mahogany and I run through a Triaxis mostly so similar kinda gain structures to the Mark. It's got a nice level of cut and clarity and is substantially tighter than the PAF types in my other guitars.
The PA-TB2 sounds amazing in my maple neck-through horizon though it's probably alder or something and not mahogany. I tried the 81, 89, black winter sh & tb and finally the PA-TB2 and stuck with that one.
Keep in mind that it's neck-thru, so the dominant tone will be from the maple. You probably don't want to go too bright or too harsh.
It always makes me laugh when i see people referring to Seymour Duncans by their model number instead of their name. It'd be like referring to a DiMarzio Evolution as a DP159.
I've got a spare JB laying around that I might try. I hate that the wiring is so complex on the super switch. I would love to learn how to wire my own but not with that bird's nest.
I also support the D-Activator suggestions. Definitely for the bridge, but the neck is pretty good as well. In which case you can even try a Dominion neck with the D-Activator bridge.
Maybe the better way to describe them was a TON of treble, to my ears, but not much presence. Either way, I didn't get on with them which was the main reason I didn't hold on to the 1527 they were in... which to this day I kick myself for.
At the risk of starting a debate, my experience leads me to believe the most important factor on neckthru guitars is what the actual neck-thru material is, since it's what both the pickups and the bridge are mounted on/in. The wings "flavor" the sound, but on the menu, I'd be calling this "maple guitar with a hint of mahogany".
That in mind, the word that comes to mind is "bright", so you'd want a pickup that'll offset that. FWIW, my experience with the D-Activators (since they've been mentioned) are that they are actually very similar to the PAF Pro in character, but a little hairier and higher output (Alnico 2 vs. ceramic magnet). Worth mentioning because, if you REALLY don't like the PAF Pro, the D-A isn't 'night and day' different.
As far as more output and clarity go, the Evo is a good recommendation but not my first choice for something bright (like I'd characterize your guitar). Instead, I'd recommend the Tone Zone, because it's similar in output and character to the Evo but more focus on 'low-mid', to EQ things out more evenly. :2c:
