Tapped - A Documentary about bottled water

I think I heard somewhere that there is no regulation on bottled water, and they just fill a bunch of them up from a tap in a warehouse.

Then they put pretty pictures on the bottles of waterfalls and hibiscus flowers and create all of these interesting terms for bullshit "filtering" processes, and pull the wool over the eyelids of most of the American public.

The only reason I buy bottled water is to reuse the bottles for convenience that are filled up from my filtered fridge tap.

Yeah, they talk about recycling, the process to make the plastic for those bottles and such. The chemical that's used to make the plastic bottles for bottled water comes from oil.

They also talk about how much pollution it's caused as well as how companies are making such a banking off it. I would've never even guessed that bottled water had such a bad side.

Thanks for this. I knew a bit of it, but the documentary does a good job of compiling and presenting the information. People, buy a brita pitcher and drink tap water.

Ugh.....just got to the part about the water cooler jugs.....holy shit. I drink out of a water cooler multiple times a day at work.

I was thinking of getting a filter to attach to the kitchen faucet.

I bought a brita faucet attachment but it kept falling off

The pitcher is great though, and I can put it in my fridge so I always have ice cold water

The footage of John Kerry ripping that guy a new one is great.

Yeah one of my ex's had a pitcher filter. That was one of the things I missed after we broke up :lol:

Crazy. I'm very fortunate to have the best water in the UK - it needs nothing done to it out the tap and tastes amazing, but in England the water is heavily and fluoridated and chlorinated and it shows. You can't drink some London water out the tap. :lol:

Double bonus; we don't pay for water on a metre like parts of England do.

Given the Gestapo-like qualities of your Food and Drug Administration (or whatever it's called) this surprised me. You aren't allowed haggis because of offal concerns but there is no regulation on advertising standards?

Over here, water from a natural spring is named 'spring water' - has to be, in fact. "Mineral Water" is simply tap water with things added to it, and has to labelled as such. Not many people know the distinction, but a few years back Coca Cola released 'Dasani' bottled water and got a HUGE bollocking by the media after it was revealed it was simply London tap water, filtered a bit, with a markup of something in the region of 50,000% :lol:

Watch the documentary. The FDA does not regulate the bottled water industry because of a legal loophole. Basically, because bottled water is made and sold within state borders the FDA does not have federal regulatory control over it. Americans are whores for trends and convenience, and when bottled water became this "sexy", "convenient", "pure","healthy","great tasting" product they fell for it.

Our water is fluoridated and chlorinated unfortunately, which is why I have the brita filter. Plus water in my city can be smelly out of tap. Once it passes through the brita though, it tastes fine. Water is water....

Our water here in Florida (well, in Jacksonville) is really crappy because it comes through a large layer of limestone through the aquifer, and it is very, very hard. If you don't have a water softener down here, you're pretty much fucked.

We have a Brita pitcher, but I just go with the fridge filter, because it does the job. A lot of people here I know buy the stainless steel water bottles to reuse due to the potential chemicals that are leached from plastic water bottles.

I have one of the stainless steel water bottles. It's pretty nice!

another thing from the documentary is how they say that tap water here in the US gets tested many times a month (more for bigger cities). Bottled water never gets tested.

Using stainless steel is cool and all buti drink nearly two gallons of watera day.. How cani pull that off?

I drank tap water my whole life. All you have to do is boil it to kill any germs it might have, stick it in your fridge for a couple of hours and you are good to go. Buying water = waste money.

There's a lot worse in water than germs in the US; I guess we're fortunate to have basically germ-free water, so boiling isn't necessary unless you're living in a place like Brazil like you do, but we have mercury, lead, drugs, chlorine... all impossible to get rid of without filtration, unfortunately.

Reverse osmosis is pretty much the best option if you can afford to install a system, otherwise a good measure are the filtered pitchers and such that you can buy at retail stores.

The RO systems are awesome!
