I fucking love Alex Hutchings. He's got a lot of speed, but there's still a sense of shape and dynamics in his improvisations. And he nails changes like the changes are trying to follow him rather than the other way around.
What a great player, phrasing-wise. Still, the string silencer always puts me off. I know it's not the same, but it always makes me think of a bike with training wheels on it.
Don't get me wrong, the guy's better than I'll ever be. I just think he's cheating by cancelling out the chance that an open string will ring. Would love to hear take 2 without the silencer. Regardless, vids like that really make me want to practice.
