I understand the logic of putting a T-Pain picture, but the guy's actually a pretty damn good singer. Autotune's just "his sound".

Okay, Aaron mode off. Cher sucks.

Why not put limiting, or compression or equalization on that list too?
Those can easily make things sound like crap when put into the wrong hands like autotune does
Autotune isn't inherently bad or good.
It's a tool like any other that can be used correctly to great effect and be extremely transparent and not noticeable, or it can be abused to make you sound like this current wave of "r'n'b" wanker vocalists who have decided that they are too cool to get vocal coaching and to actually practice and that it can just be fixed by autotune as they please

Probably because people dont take EQs and compressors and set all the knobs at maximum and talk through them?

And people using autotune to bring bad singing into pitch isn't what the article is talking about -- its the extreme vocoder-like modulation shit that TPain made famous.

Humboldt Squid is :hsquid:

It's supposed to be a fun list, not super cereal analysis... (not like Cap'n Crunch in his DiMarzio Crunch Lab)
