Ubuntu geeks: UM proxy question

1067 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Thomas
I have a fresh install of 10.10, and I have the network proxy configured system-wide. Everything can get to the web just peachy, but Update Manager can't download any updates - I get the usual 'failed to fetch blah blah' error that apps throw when they don't have a proxy.

I can't, however, seem to find any additional settings for UM that would make it use a different proxy, or not use the system proxy. I can install shit through apt just fine, but I'd like to use the GUI.

Where's the proxy config for update manager?

Note: global http_proxy is correct, and apt.conf is empty. Where the fuck is the setting for this thing?
[jbroll]Why the fuck are you using the GUI? The terminal is far superior[/jbroll]

:D
 I ended up using the terminal. I've had mixed results with apt, and this machine is going on a DMZ so it's going to be subject to a bajillion patches and scans once a month.

A reboot ended up solving the proxy issue. Kind of uncommon for Linux, but hey.
Ubuntu sometimes does use half-working bullshit so not unexpected

Weird: the mobile site doesn't pick up the brollcode. Must be running on closed source software.
No, it just shows more restraint when something isn't very funny.

Nah, it was funny. Must be something else.
