A local rock club arranges a fun thing every year where you can sign up to play a few covers.
You get the songs a couple of weeks beforehand but you dont know who you will play with until right before the gig starts.
I got 3 songs (in two different "bands") and so far I've only seen one of them being filmed

And it features the absolute best, smooth and well thought out solo you can imagine

Song starts at 1:39... World class solo starts at 3:50 I completely forgot what key the solo was played in

I also played Dio Rainbow In The Dark and Helloweens I Want Out with some other guys and I had some better preparations for those

Can't you just use your ears to figure out what key you're in? The solo is in the same key as the rest of the song anyway.

Yeah I know that but have you ever heard of being nervous before?
that can play tricks with your mind

I'm definitely not immune to being nervous

I figured out "ah, it's in THAT key" right before my solo part ended but then it was too late

I play live on stage like ABOUT ONCE EACH YEAR so that doesn't help either.

I really need to play live more often but I dont even play in a regularly playing band so its no help
