so, i broke my right thumb yesterday at work.
ironically enough, i did it while building a patient's new prosthetic leg. he'll be able to walk again today.
in the meantime, i gotta find something to do for the next couple months (god, i hope its not that long), while my right thumb and hand are in a cast. of course this happens a couple weeks after i start getting serious with the guitar again.
i figured, maybe this is a good time to start learning actual music theory. does anybody have any good links to places/sites where i can be taught the basics and more?
i guess i could use some good left-hand technique lessons as well.
ideas?
input?

all great ideas so far. thanks
never thought that a temporary handicap would lead me closer to the darkside of lead guitar. having been a rhythm guitarist since i picked up the instrument 17.5 years ago, i've honestly put very little work into playing lead, mainly for a lack of interest.
i guess something productive could come out of this experience.

awesome, mike! thanks!

yeah, so far its just the thumb. in about an hour, i go see the hand surgeon to look at my xrays indepth, and get a detailed prognosis. i was concerned about my right ulna and radius yesterday, but i think they were just shocked from the impact.

actually, about 6 (maybe 7, i dont remember. ask Noodles, he was there) years ago, i just about destroyed my left thumb in a tablesaw. thankfully, a really badass plastic surgeon rebuilt it that evening. it will never be 100% of what it was, but i evolved and adapted to its contraints. my rehab for that was playing bass in Noodles' old band Above the Fray. at that point was probably their last ditch attempt at keeping someone behind the big strings, but it did wonders for my rehab.
so now, i have to rehab my rhythm hand after the upcoming 5 weeks in a cast after i have surgery (that i just found out i needed this morning) next week.
im too stubborn to be put out to pasture yet. in the meantime, i have more to learn. thanks for the ideas and directions.
