It was the era where everyone wants to play FAST (thanks Paul Gilbert! :spock:) :hbang:


But If had to pick one who had that melodic sense and the technical prowess to go with it, that would be hands down ...Vinnie Moore...''Meltdown'' still is, my fav guitar instrumental album

John Sykes, pre-viking Zakk Wylde (he was more bluesy, but still played fast), and I'm really starting to get more into Alex Skolnick.

Also, biiiiiiig fuckin' +1 to the Vicious Rumors guys.

John Sykes, pre-viking Zakk Wylde (he was more bluesy, but still played fast), and I'm really starting to get more into Alex Skolnick.

LOVED Skolnick's playing in ''The Ritual'' album.... pure legato bliss

Too many to count, but why "late 80s" and not just "80s"? Alex Skolnick is definitely high on my list, but so is Steve Vai... and John Petrucci... and, and... Yeah, way too many to count.
