Are you trying to make sampled drums sound more human?

 

Yeah, for some homemade covers I dump drum and bass tracks to midi and import them to reaper to use with Superior drummer and a bass plugin. Maybe I should use superior's humanize for the drums instead?

 

I normally humanize in smaller increments, usually around 2-5%. I prefer humanizing more with velocity than with the timing because you want it to sound human, not out of time. I don't do anything to preserve the original, I just do a small amount and listen and re-apply or undo if I'm unhappy with it.
