Would you buy a guitar MIRC stamped used/second?

Supposedly MIRC restores them to good condition and keeps a record of what was does to each guitar so you know its history.

I've read on forums where people saved a decent amount of money and got a guitar that was just as good of quality as a new one.

Although I just emailed someone selling one of these guitars and asked the history and they said they didn't know it, so I decided not to buy it.

is MIRC selling direct now? Wierd.

Even the dealers they sell to dont know an awful lot about what happened to them, bar a rough one word explanation of its condition. Extreme usually means something like the headstock snapped off, or multiple body gouges into the wood because a floyd post came loose and the floyd scattered across the body taking chunks as it went, or something like that. They do an amazing job fixing it in my experience, usually looking as new as something can get after that (maybe a slight seam where the neck was repaired etc, only aesthetic), but it still has been trashed at one point. Light might mean something akin to pickswirls or light scratches. They had 4 or 5 categorizations as of a few years ago IIRC. The keeps a record thing is new, and a good thing IMO. IMO the prices are a bit high for what they are, but they come with a warrantee from MIRC (no factory warrantee from manufacturer, clearly), so that may be worth it depending on their policies. Hard to say.

I can say they do an awesome job restoring stuff.

So resellers won't be privy to this info about the guitar's history?
Used to be the case. Dunno about these days.
I didn't know MIRC warrantied them. That's pretty cool.
Read above comment about used to be the case (iirc), dunno about these days .

Also, i think they'd warranteed it to the store, who then could offer or not the warrantee, something like that. It's been quite a while though, so I cant offer much sure advice beyond the fact that they do a good job with repairs. Get the information about what happened to it if you can, and ask yourself "if that happened but was very well repaired, is it worth this price?"

:bump: I'm seeing a lot more of these lately. I've been in the market for a cheap beater 7 with actives, and I keep seeing MIRC guitars on reverb and ebay. I'm not fond of the fact they seem to erase the original serial #s, and I'm wondering exactly what their sourcing is. Is it just b stock from manufacturers that didn't sell? Is it a specific problem, like rosewood /bubinga woods sold after the international shipping ban? It just seems shady to sell guitars in this way, and I'm trying to better understand their market.

For example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ibanez-Iron-Label-RG-Series-RGIR37BE-7-String-Electric-Guitar/232704691766

I'm also seeing a lot of "used" guitars from the japanese market, but they're sold as potentially blemished and I can't see any pics, so obviously I'm not going to buy them. For example, this guitar is gorgeous and if it was Sweetwater or a local company selling it, I'd be all over it. However, I am not seeing anything terribly similar in the states: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ibanez-RGIX27FEQM-Burgundy-Wine-7-string-Free-Shipping/192476991540

I know that for some parts of the business, the removal of the serial number and the giant USED sticker is to prevent them from being warrantable by the original brand. They can have all kinds of issues but Im pretty sure that MIRC makes sure they are playable guitars out the door.

I bought my ICT700 Iceman as a factory second on eBay and I couldn't be happier with it. Of course this is just a sample size of one, but as far as I can tell, the only issue with the guitar was just a slightly misaligned fret marker. The guitar plays fantastic and the issue is only an issue if you pay supremely close attention AND care about such a small cosmetic flaw.

The upside is I got at $900 guitar (at the time) for $550 with the original Ibanez Iceman specific case.

I bought an Ibanez Iron Label that was a MIRC - from a pawn shop. The neck was twisted a bit and, of course, there was no one to ask about it.

So, I'm not a fan but that's just one story.
