I have a Morley volume pedal that has minimum volume settings for this purpose. I really just use the knob most of the time though.

 

A volume pedal like that would work. I just wish I could have that in a knob, because I don't want to have to have another pedal for it.

 

A rotary switch and a bunch of resistors should do the trick.

Could even use some trim pots to adjust each position on the switch.

Edit: dont some basses come with a pot that lets you know when you reach halfway? Would that work?

 

1. Roll off the volume to the desired level.
2. Glue the pot in that position.
3. Install a mini-switch to bypass the volume control.
4. ???
5. Profit.

I installed a 2 way toggle on an old jazz box of mine with a trim pot that I could set the volume level on. Then I could seitch between the low setting for chordal work and high setting for licks and adjust it if ever need be.

But a rotary swith with a few resistors on it will be your best bet.

 

I'm actually thinking, after Josh mentioned it, either just getting the Morley he has, or modifying another volume pedal that way. It would be easier, and I'd only have to do it once for all guitars.

 

You could also build a pedal with a volume pot and a bypass switch for probably less than $50.

 

I have that same volume pedal, the Morley Volume Plus. Great piece of kit, definitely worth the ~65$ I paid for it.

 

The Little Alligator does it, and I'm seeing them for ~$50 used. Just going to do that. :yesway:

 

word of warning. The little alligator dampens the highs a lot so buy one with a good return policy :lol:

Yeah I had one that I used as a solo "boost" in my FX loop and the 100% position was much brighter than the 75% position.
