Just stumbled across this today and it actually doesn't sound bad. Ripping lead player Travis something.
Nice to hear a new band with a singer that actually sings for a change.

A live clip too

kind of Djenty but kind of not.
I know a lot of people say "oh just cause she's a chick she's getting attention" but honestly...she smokes my drummer LOL!

Still kind of gimmicky - they could have called the band something other than her stage name, and I've never seen a video fo any band, including Dream Theater, feature closeups of the drummer so prominently - but certainly competent.

Though, I can't shake the feeling it sounds like a less interesting Periphery.

And I don't think the gimmick is really serving her well. When I see a hot chick who likes metal my brain pretty much shuts off and the unclean thoughts start. In the short term focusing on that aspect might be useful. But in the end her talent is going to be overlooked. I'm with you on the sound. The music is fine but there wasn't anything there to draw me in and want to hear more.

singer that actually sings
Have you ever heard actual singing good sir? Audibly bleeding from your vagina as hard as you can into a microphone over a C list generic djentcore track does not automatically make it "singing".

This literally had zero redeeming aspects.

If you were unlucky enough to pick out any of the lyrics you might have heard the gem "Do your demons cry?"

No. My demons do not cry. They mope in their room doing hammer curls while their mom begs them to come down and eat dinner because it's getting cold trying to recapture the magic of the sheer overbearing angst of Linkin Park for the first time in a modern metal context in a band who's existence is only justified because one of the members is an internet sensation. Then they put on their beanie and deliver a powerful emotive performance in a shitty music video with sweet digital effects.

Death metal vocals aren't typically considered to be singing - which is why they the dude grunting majestically into the microphone is usually referred to as a vocalist instead of a singer.

Ergo, it is clear that Garret was comparing the singing in the video to stuff like Maiden and Priest, and by that measure he's 100% correct.

Vis a vis. Concordantly.

I was actually a little disappointed when I saw them live and the vocals were just sort of standard gurgly, uber low brutal death metal vocals and not toad-demon-taking-a-taco-bell-shit vocals like on the album.
